There's something about the holiday season that makes you want to give back. Maybe it's the general excitement in the air. Or perhaps, as we get ready to celebrate with family and friends, we see all that we have and realize that's not the case for everyone.  

So we decided to do something as an office. This year we held an office toy drive for Blank Children's Hospital. Legos, coloring books, movies and more! We hope these gifts can help brighten someone's day during their hospital stay.

Police are warning residents about a new tax phone scam. Waukee police sent a text and email alert saying a man with an Indian accent is calling, claiming to be from the Waukee police department, and saying you owe the IRS money. 

Scams like these are ones we see all too often. Sometimes, callers claim to be from the IRS and make threatening claims.

In our Tax Tip Tuesday Blog, we outlined what you need to know about tax scams, including the ways scammers try to trick you and what you should do if you get one of these calls.

A Businesses Getting Results Seminar: Dealing with Customer Complaints

Statistics vary, but for every customer who makes a complaint, you are likely to have between twenty and thirty dissatisfied customers who say nothing. Or at least, they say nothing to you, but they're happy to tell other people. In fact, customers are likely to tell between eight and ten people when they are dissatisfied. And each of these is likely to pass the word on to several others.

There is a positive side to complaints however: they can be used to improve your business processes AND even cement customer loyalty. Complaints are a valuable resource. They provide low-cost feedback and if you handle customer complaints well, you can confirm customer loyalty. Good complaint resolution can actually assist in turning even customers who have a complaint into long-term clients who will recommend your business to others. This topic will show you how to handle complaints effectively and use them to actually improve a product quality and customer focus by the team.

A Businesses Getting Results Seminar: Finding New Sources of Business

January 4th, 2013 

A healthy business targets and achieves growth. A business that isn’t capable of finding new sources of business will eventually become unsustainable and fail.

This BGR shows how to set growth targets for a business and measure progress towards them. It covers the many ways of finding new sources of business with an emphasis on those ways that will generate a growth in business but not a huge growth in expenditure. 
 

It also outlines a process for analyzing a business and deciding which will be the best ways for it to achieve growth.

Your customers are generally only interested in product or service features that translate into benefits. So, whether you’re developing a new product or service, or exploring a way to repackage an old one, it is important to think clearly about the benefits you provide. Product or service features are not important in themselves. Great as a product or service may be, customers won’t love it for its own sake. They’ll only love it for the benefits it provides.

This topic is about translating product or service features into benefits that meet the needs of your customers. It covers market research to identify benefits from the customers’ perspective, how to develop a Unique Core Differentiator and how to incorporate these benefits into marketing strategies to provide you with long-term growth.

On November 16, 2011, the Ryun, Givens & Company staff reported to 1435 5th Street in Des Moines for a different kind of work day. 

This day was not about audits and accounting, but the Ryun, Givens & Company team was still doing what it does best: providing quality service that meets a pressing need. 

In this case the end result was a new home for Habitat for Humanity, the not for profit organization that provides safe and affordable housing to those who would otherwise be without it.
